We are seeking a Sample Control Technician supports the sample intake process, providing direct customer service, entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and managing incoming samples for laboratory testing. Responsibilities also include cleaning and preparing sample containers, assembling sample kits for customer sampling projects, and performing basic equipment checks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external laboratory clients.
  • Assist with processing samples and containers efficiently.
  • Review work orders in LIMS to ensure data accuracy with Chain of Custody forms.
  • Act as the primary custodian, distributing sample containers to laboratory analysts.
  • Ensure proper preservation, storage, retention, and disposal of samples.
  • Prepare sample kits, label containers, and manage cooler tracking.
  • Process laboratory supplies and packing slips.
  • Maintain lab equipment cleanliness and accuracy of measurements.
  • Perform additional departmental duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to understand laboratory protocols, procedures, and federal/state requirements for sample handling.
  • Strong attention to detail in sample documentation.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and laboratory personnel.
  • Competent in basic computer usage and data entry.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

  • Moderate physical labor, including standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Regular exposure to wastewater byproducts, pathogenic organisms, and flammable solvents.
  • Use of lab equipment, such as lab-grade dishwashers, balances, ovens, and computers.
